Right when the coronavirus outbreak started, I began my new job as a broadcast journalist. With that being said, my first week at work was pretty crazy! Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING we covered was about COVID-19. Fortunately, my place of employment truly cares about their employees so we take all the necessary precautions to ensure that everyone that enters our facility is safe. I know that everyone has a different opinion about “the media”, but the news is very important because we get crucial information to citizens immediately, especially during these trying times.
As for the time that I’ve spent at home, my family and I have been laying low. We are trying our best to social distance. We go on a lot of hikes and walks. Just in the last week I have visited new places in the Black Hills that are absolutely stunning. If you haven’t been to Eleventh Hour Gulch in Spearfish Canyon - I’d highly recommend it! Or check out other ways to responsibly break isolation.
My dog, Rigby, is loving all the attention he has been receiving with everyone at home. One thing that has been hard is not being able to see my grandparents as much. They are listening to the government recommendations and completely self-isolating, which is good. I’m excited for the day this is all over and we can spend time together again.
I understand this is a scary time for a lot of people but it’s important for everyone to remain calm and make smart decisions - like washing your hands! Remember to be helpful and optimistic. This too shall pass.
